AALIYAH, ANNIVERSARIES AND BIRTHDAYS

So today is yours truly birthday. I wake up and I log on to Twitter. I immediately see what’s on a lot people’s minds: the anniversary of singer Aaliyah’s death. Although I’d never forget her, I had forgotten about her death day. To be honest, it now feels kind of morbid to celebrate someone’s death on someone’s birthday, which got me to thinking. Why do we celebrate someone on the anniversary of their passing? Why not honor them on their birthday? For Aaliyah, that was the beginning of the wonderful life that she led and I think honoring her on her birthday (January 16th) forces us to remember her in a positive light.
Do you think it’s good to only honor Aaliyah on the day she passed?
